Meet GOTRVT Superstar: Wendy Johnson

For nearly 20 years, Wendy Johnson, a retired PE and health teacher and longtime Girls on the Run coach, has shown up with steady encouragement and a deep belief in what girls can achieve. Inspired by Girls on the Run Vermont founder Nancy Heydinger, Wendy brought her whole-child approach to two Vermont teams, coaching multiple days a week and creating spaces where girls built confidence, found their voices, and learned to trust their strength.

From sideline cheers to quiet support, her impact grew season after season and came to life in powerful 5K finish line celebrations she still treasures. Even beyond coaching, Wendy continues to champion the program as a SoleMate fundraiser and participant in community events like the Vermont City Marathon relay team.

Now in her 19th season, Wendy’s legacy is clear: helping girls feel seen, capable, and proud of who they are becoming.
